Keep it casual. Direct yet cordial interaction is common, and tough situations are often defused with a joke

Don't believe negative self-talk. Australians are as modest as they are respectful. It is best not to draw any hasty conclusions about them, as they may even minimise their own achievements. If they begin to criticise themselves, avoid joining in; they may not be as receptive as you expect.
