Do I need a Work Permit or Visa to work in Finland?
Whilst Agility EOR does not generally “sponsor” Work Permits (this practice is not always compatible with the EOR/PEO model), we can generally support candidates needing a work permit in Finland.
Citizens of the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland) do not need a visa or special permit to enter or stay in the country. They can also work for pay without the need for a residence permit.
EU citizens and citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland do not require a residence permit to reside and work for a period of 3 months. If they plan to remain in Finland for an extended period of time, they register their right to reside with the local police station.
Non EU citizens require both a Finland work permit and residence permit. The kind of permits depend on the kind of employment they intend to engage in. A specialised permit is required for highly qualified individuals who have been offered. There are some jobs in businesses that require a work visa issued by the National Board of Patents and Registration for individuals who live outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
The different types of Finland work permit are:
- Employment-based permits: based on your employment status and job type
- Study-based permits: for students studying in Finland
- Family-based permits: for family members of a Finnish citizen or resident
- EU citizen permits: for citizens of EU/EEA countries
- Entrepreneur-based permits: for self-employed individuals
- Trainer/teacher-based permits: for individuals providing training or teaching services
- Artist-based permits: for artists, musicians, and other creative professionals.
