Germany Holiday Entitlement

Employees in Germany are entitled to holiday dependant on the length of their working week. 

Employees who work 6 days per week are allowed 24 days per year;   5 days per week the entitlement is 20 days.  Note however that these are the statutory minimums and for more senior positions, in order to be competitive in the market, employees may expect a higher level of annual entitlement in the range of 25 to 30 days.

Germany Maternity Leave

A maternity allowance is paid for six weeks before the birth and eight weeks after. (This may be extended to twelve weeks in the case of premature/ multiple births). 

Germany Sick Pay

After four weeks of employment, employees in Germany are entitled to six weeks of continuation of pay (sick pay), which is fully covered by the employer.  Beyond this time, the cost of sick leave benefit will be met by the employee’s health insurance, however, these benefits are frequently capped. If their illness lasts longer than three days, a doctor’s note (Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung) must be provided.

Payrolling the employees is a key part of the service offered by an Employer of Record company. The Employer of Record will calculate and remit all taxes, social securities and similar payments, on behalf of both employer and employee. The client will be invoiced in advance by the EOR company, for the total cost of the payroll.

Yes. Our clients are free to dictate the structure of the employees’ remuneration including any bonuses or commissions they wish to offer. In some countries, there is a statutory requirement to provide “bonuses”, for example in the form of Christmas or holiday allowances.
