Find out all about employing in Greece

Pensions in Greece

In recent years, the Greek pension system has undergone reforms aimed at ensuring its long-term sustainability. These reforms have included changes to the calculation of pensions, an increase in the retirement age, and cuts to the amount of pension payments.

Employees are required to contribute around 9% of their gross salary to the pension system, while employers are required to contribute nearer to 25% of their employees’ salaries. These contributions are deducted from the employee’s salary before taxes, and the funds are used to pay for the pensions of current retirees.

Greece Healthcare Benefits

Health insurance is mandatory for employees in Greece. In Greece, everyone is required to pay into a universal health care system that provides them with access to low- or no-cost medical care. In this healthcare system, services are provided on a geographical basis.

Private healthcare may be used regardless of whether or not the company provides benefits. Depending on the company, employees may also be eligible for a car and a housing allowance.

In most cases, workers who have put in at least three months of work within the past 15 months are entitled to free medical and dental care thanks to Social Security.
