Spain Pension

The state pension scheme is part of the Social Security system in Spain. The payroll tax on salaries is used to fund the pension system.

Spain Healthcare System

Spain’s healthcare system, which includes both public and private hospitals that are covered by Social Security, is generally good. The Spanish Social Security healthcare system is divided into hospitals, specialised care facilities, and primary care facilities known as “Health Centres.”

Under the publicly funded social security system, both medical treatment and hospital care are free. The doctor will send the patient to a specialist with a formal report if specialised therapy is necessary.

By getting in touch with one of the many private health organisations operating in Spain, employees can also enrol in private health insurance.

Teleworking in Spain

In 2021, Spain established new laws pertaining to remote and telework. These also apply to employees who work remotely if they do so for at least 30% of their workdays over the course of three months.

The requirement to engage in this kind of employment is not established by Spanish law regarding teleworking. In other words, a mutual agreement between the two parties is required for the implementation of remote work. Before being put into effect, any amendment of the terms of the agreement must be approved by both the employer and the employee and documented in writing.

The accompanying costs, such as energy and Internet, will be covered by the business. The telework agreement also makes reference to the equipment given to the employee.

The method of reimbursement for such expenses shall be mutually agreed upon (ie. by means of a monthly allowance). The parties may also agree that telework-related expenses are included in the annual compensation.

Payrolling the employees is a key part of the service offered by an employer of record company. The EOR will calculate and remit all taxes, social securities and similar payments, on behalf of both employer and employee. The client will be invoiced in advance by the EOR company, for the total cost of the payroll.
