How does Payroll in
Switzerland work?
Pay your staff once a month
There is no legally mandated requirement for a 13th salary payment. However, it is considered to be somewhat of a cultural norm. The employment contract or collective bargaining agreement will contain specific terms for the payment of this bonus, if it is due.
Discretionary bonuses
Bonuses are generally defined as discretionary, and therefore not required to be placed in the contract of employment.
National minimum wage
Switzerland does not have a national minimum wage, but a number of its cantons (Geneva for example) have adopted their own minimum wage regulations.
Industry-specific collective bargaining agreements frequently take the place of minimum wage legislation, however the Swiss government frequently revisits the issue.
