Are public holidays paid in the Czech Republic?

When a public holiday falls on a working day, employees are entitled to compensation, equal to their average wages for work lost.

Are public holidays on non-working days substituted?

Public holiday dates are fixed in the Czech Republic (with the exception of Good Friday and Easter Monday). The holiday falls on the day observed and no substitution is awarded for holidays which fall on a non-working day.

Are there regional variances within the Czech Republic?

There are no regional holidays in the Czech Republic. All public holidays are nationally observed.

Are employees compensated if they are required to work on a public holiday?

Workers required to work on a public holiday may be compensated either with additional, paid time off for hours worked. This must be given within three months of the worked holiday. Alternatively, employers may offer an overtime premium, this may be equal to up 200% of the employee’s average pay.
