Benefits of using an Employer of Record (EOR)
Using an EOR allows you to hire in the Isle of Man without establishing a local entity, removing the cost and lead time of company formation and avoiding the risk of non-compliance with unfamiliar legislation.
You have three options: set up your own Isle of Man entity, engage an independent contractor, or use an Employer of Record. An EOR is typically the fastest and most cost-effective route where you need a compliant employment relationship without a permanent local presence.
You can, but the distinction between a contractor and an employee matters. If the working arrangement resembles employment — fixed hours, integration into your team, ongoing direction — the Isle of Man authorities may reclassify the relationship, bringing tax and NIC obligations with it.
You would need to register with the Isle of Man Companies Registry, appoint at least one director, and comply with the Companies Act 2006. You would also need to register for income tax and national insurance as an employer. This process takes time and carries ongoing compliance obligations, which is why many companies choose to use an EOR instead.
The Isle of Man has its own distinct employment legislation that differs from the UK in several areas — including annual leave carry-over rules, the absence of statutory sick pay, and separate national insurance thresholds. Getting these wrong can result in penalties, tribunal claims, or incorrect tax filings. An EOR with direct experience of Manx law reduces that risk.
Agility EOR takes full responsibility for operating PAYE, filing tax returns, and making both employee and employer national insurance contributions to the Isle of Man Income Tax Division on your behalf.
Agility EOR handles the legal employment framework — contracts, payroll, tax, national insurance, and compliance with Manx law. Your company remains responsible for the employee's role, workload, and performance management. In practice, you manage the work — we manage the employment.
Income tax is deducted at source through PAYE at rates of 10% and 21%. Employer NICs are payable at 12.8% above the secondary threshold. There is no capital gains tax, inheritance tax, or stamp duty.
Yes. Employees engaged through Agility EOR receive the same statutory protections as any other employee on the island, including rights under the Employment Act 2006, anti-discrimination legislation, statutory leave entitlements, and protection against unfair dismissal.
Agility operates as the legal employer on the ground, directly accountable for compliance with Isle of Man employment and tax legislation. We keep up to date with changes to Manx law — including budget updates to tax thresholds, NIC rates, and minimum wage — so you don't have to.
